Learn-to-Skate Program

ICOB is pleased to offer USFS-based Group Lessons on Saturdays from 11:00-11:30 am to all its skating members. Group lesson fees are included in your ICOB tuition.
Levels include Basic 8's, Freestyle 1-6, and Advanced Jump + Spin.

ICOB also teaches Ice Dancing Group Lessons from 10:30-11:00 am. Dance group lesson fees are also included in your ICOB tuition, if you are Basic 3 and up.

Basic 8's:

Basic 1
A. Sit on ice and stand up
B. March forward across the ice
C. Forward two foot glide
D. Teapot (aka Beginner's Dip)
E. Forward swizzles: 6-8 in a row
F. Backward wiggles: 6-8 in a row
G. Standing still snowplow stop
H. Rocking Horse
I. 2-foot hop in place (optional)

Basic 2
A. Forward one-foot glide: R & L
B. Backward two-foot glide
C. Backward swizzles: 6-8 in a row
D. Two-foot turn from forward-to-backward in place
E. Moving snowplow stop
F. Forward alternating ½ swizzle pumps; in a straight line (slalom like pattern)

Basic 3
A. Forward stroking, showing correct use of blade
B. Forward ½ swizzle pumps on a circle (6-8 consecutive) both ways
C. Moving forward-to-backward two-foot turn (both ways)
D. Backward one foot glides: R & L
E. Forward Slalom
F. Two-foot spin, up to 2 revolutions

Basic 4
A. Forward outside edge on a circle
B. Forward inside edge on a circle
C. Forward crossovers (6-8 consecutive) both ways
D. Forward outside 3-turn (R and L)
E. Backward 1/2 swizzle pumps on a circle (both ways)
F. Backward stroking
G. Backward snowplow stop (R and L)

Basic 5:
A. Backward outside edge on a circle
B. Backward inside edge on a circle
C. Backward crossovers (6-8 consecutive) both ways
D. Beginning one foot spin: up to 3 revolutions
E. Hockey stop
F. Side Toe hop (both ways)

Basic 6:
A. Forward inside 3-turn - R & L
B. Moving backward-to-forward two-foot turn (both ways)
C. T-stop
D. Bunny Hop
E. Forward arabesque/spiral on a straight line
F. Lunge

Basic 7:
A. Forward inside open Mohawk R-to-L and L-to-R
B. Backward outside to forward outside edge transition on a circle (both ways)
C. Ballet Jump (either direction)
D. Back crossovers to a back outside edge landing position (both ways)
E. Forward inside pivot (either direction)

Basic 8:
A. Moving forward outside 3-turn on a circle (both feet)
B. Moving forward inside 3-turn on a circle (both feet)
C. Combination move (2 forward crossovers into FI Mohawk, step behind, step into 1 back crossover and step to a forward inside edge) both ways
D. One-foot upright spin, optional entry & free foot position
E. Waltz jump
F. Mazurka - either direction

T-pushes using proper part of blade
